About the Northwest Behavioral Health Institute

The Northwest Behavioral Health Institute, formerly known as the Northwest Institute of Addictions Studies, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1974. In 2026, we are proud to celebrate our 51st conference, marking five decades of advancing education, connection, and support in the behavioral health and substance use disorder field.

Our all-volunteer board of directors is dedicated to helping professionals stay current with best practices in substance use disorder treatment.

Each year, we host a summer conference in the Portland metropolitan area, featuring nationally and locally recognized presenters committed to strengthening the field and supporting the workforce.
